Hay! Meet me at the Oval!
Taking Michael Mercil’s Virtual Pasture a step further, why not install hay bales on OSU’s Oval? These organic monuments will be placed amongst the sunbathing sorority girls and football throwing bro’s, all in an effort to add visual interest to the large green space. The bales would be unimpeded and users would be welcomed to interact with or occupy the pieces.
In addition to adding physical presence to the space, the bales would further the discussion that the Virtual Pasture has facilitated. Posing similar questions of how we (in 2010 America) perceive and engage agriculture; and what does the rural landscape mean to us, a contemporary culture separated (in a variety of ways) from agrarian life?
Aside from all that theory (thank you grad school), I just think it would be great to install some interesting forms onto the Oval and see how students interact with them. Hay fight anyone?
